Since 1968, Larry Hawkins's leadership of the Office of Special Programs/College Prep
has given young Chicagoans the tools to succeed. This pioneer educational outreach
program on the University of Chicago campus identifies students from low-income
families who have the potential to pursue a college education. "We prepare them with
experiences from academics to sports to culture that help them move on to a
post-secondary school of their choice and to become good citizens who can choose
how to live their lives," says Hawkins.
