South East Chicago Commission
Founded in 1952, the South East Chicago Commission (SECC) enhances the quality of life in Hyde Park–South Kenwood by tracking crime, documenting city ordinance violations, and sharing information of public concern.
The SECC promotes safety and neighborhood pride through a variety of programs and services. For example:
- The Victim/Witness Assistance Program guides victims and witnesses through the criminal justice system, providing transportation to and from court and explaining court rulings.
- The SECC's annual analysis of crime statistics provides valuable information to businesses and residents.
- The Business District Program works to improve the physical appearance of the business districts. The SECC also regularly removes graffiti from public spaces.
- The SECC's work with Metra and CTA officials helps improve transportation to the area.
- The SECC monitors poorly maintained buildings, investigates violations of city building codes, and endeavors to improve building situations.
