Schools
The University's impact on K–12 education is widely recognized-and growing.
On campus, the University's internationally recognized Laboratory Schools educate nearly 1,700 students each year. In partnership with the city, University students and faculty collaborate with Chicago Public Schools teachers and principals on classroom change and conduct research that improves public education everywhere.
Some examples of our impact:
- The University of Chicago Charter School's four campuses — North Kenwood/Oakland, Donoghue, Woodlawn and Woodson — are national models of urban education at its best. These schools are run by the Center for Urban School Improvement.
- The Neighborhood Schools Program places several hundred University students into classrooms to assist teachers in providing individual attention.
- The Consortium on Chicago School Research conducts research that is used to guide school reform in Chicago.
- The Chicago Public Schools/University of Chicago Internet Project has provided leadership in the use of technology for teaching and learning at 29 public schools in surrounding neighborhoods.
The University also provides a wealth of tutoring programs as well as outreach related to the arts and to math, science, and technology.
